Collaborate with RAZ
RAZ is not an open platform for content. It’s a space for people who understand that narrative is never neutral, and who take responsibility for how it’s shaped, challenged, and defended.
We’re not here for volume. We care about clarity, conviction, and work that actually holds weight.
Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for people across different disciplines. Writers, researchers, designers, photographers, filmmakers, and others who are able to contribute with thought and intent. You don’t need to fit a title, but you should:
- Think independently and create with purpose, not imitation
- Know what you’re talking about, whether through study, lived experience, or both
- Not rely on AI to do your thinking or speak in your voice
- Be able to develop work that has structure, depth, and direction
- Understand the political and historical weight behind the subjects you’re engaging with
This isn’t a space for trend-driven takes or surface-level commentary. It’s for people who can situate what they’re seeing, writing, or creating within something larger.
What you can contribute:
There’s no single format we’re looking for. That said, contributions might include:
- Long-form writing and analysis
- Research-driven or investigative work
- Contextual breakdowns of current events
- Visual work, whether photography, design, or film, that carries meaning and perspective
- On-the-ground observations or reporting, where it makes sense
- Breaking developments, but only when there’s something real to add beyond the headline
We’re especially interested in people who can speak from within their own regions.
Geographic focus:
A lot of the work we’re building sits within regions where power, resistance, and narrative are constantly being contested, including:
- West Asia and the Levant (Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, Syria)
- North Africa (Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan)
- South Asia (Pakistan, India, Afghanistan)
- Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia)
- Latin America and the Caribbean (Venezuela, Cuba, Chile, Brazil)
- Sub-Saharan Africa (South Africa, Nigeria)
These aren’t fixed categories, and they’re not exhaustive. They just reflect where a lot of these tensions and histories are most visible.
We’re also interested in work that looks at the role of larger non-Western powers like China and Russia, not as regions, but as actors shaping these spaces. And at the same time, perspectives from within Western countries matter too, especially when they challenge dominant narratives from the inside.
Commitment:
This isn’t something casual. RAZ is built as a shared effort, which means it only works if people take it seriously. We expect:
- A willingness to engage with constructive feedback
- A high level of consistency and follow-through
- Care for the work, even when it’s not easy or convenient
A quick note, before you proceed:
RAZ is independent, and for now, everything here is voluntary. People contribute because they believe in what’s being built and feel connected to its purpose.
If you choose to take on anything independently, including on-the-ground reporting or coverage, that’s entirely up to you. We’re not in a position to fund or organise those activities.
We just want to be upfront about that. If this doesn’t feel right for you, we completely understand.
Make your submission:
If this feels aligned, and you’re ready to contribute seriously, reach out. Please include:
- A short introduction
- Samples of your work (written, visual, or otherwise)
- The areas or regions you’re interested in
We review submissions selectively.
